A woman has allegedly been attacked with a meat cleaver by her teenage daughter in the early hours of Christmas morning.
Emergency services rushed to the house of the woman, 48, in Westmead in western Sydney after midnight on Friday to find her seriously injured.
Police were told a neighbour entered the unit after hearing the woman’s cries for help and they were chased out by a 17-year-old girl allegedly armed with a meat cleaver.
Another witness found the older woman later in the garden with multiple injuries and called an ambulance.
Police are treating the investigation as a domestic violence incident and it is understood the woman and teenager are related.
The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Westmead Hospital where she is in a serious condition.
Officers searched the property and found a meat cleaver at the scene which has been seized for forensic examination.
The 17-year-old girl was arrested by officers from Cumberland Police Area Command and she is being assessed.
Police are continuing their inquiries into the alleged attack.
