The word criminal is derived from the word crime. The level and volume of crime and criminality in Nigeria is appalling, shocking, mind blowing and frightening to say the least especially among our youths no thanks to the problem of unemployment and joblessness in the country. On daily basis, we are being inundated with sad and gory news of crime across the country on social media, print media, audio media and visual media. Just yesterday, a video was posted on social media of a Young man in Calabar who with the help of his friends allegedly killed a girl, dismembered her and used her to prepare a big pot of pepper soup and the main culprit was caught selling the pepper soup to people by the roadside. This is only one among many ranging from theft, murder, assassination, ritual killings, yahoo yahoo, 419, obtaining by trick, fraud, selling of fake things, materials and items, manufacturing and production of fake products, scam, kidnapping, blackmail, set up and rape. There is no justification whatsoever for a crime. It is already enough that we have a bad government that cares less about its citizenry, a government that does not care and overlook the sufferings and nightmares of her people, why should we prey on ourselves, why would ordinary citizens turn to their fellow citizens as if we have not had enough from our leaders. Instead of supporting and encouraging ourselves, why should we be hurting ourselves and enabling and heightening fear, insecurity, tension and unrest in our society thus increasing, complicating, multiplying and compounding our problems and making our communities unsafe. It is so unfortunate that it is poor, ordinary citizens that are preyed on. Crime is self destructive. Criminality lands one in the jail. No crime goes unpunished to serve as a deterrent in the society. If you are planning to commit any crime, be ready to face the brutal consequences of your action. Everyday is for the thief but one day is for the owner of the house. Crime has never done anyone any good. Crime destroys the society, soils the image of your family and shatters one’s reputation and integrity for ever. For those who profit and make gain from criminality, it may not last, your doomsday is coming. Say no to crime, distance yourself from bad company, resist peer pressure, expose crime, help keep the society safe, report and call the attention of law enforcement to any crime and let us join hands to reduce crime in our society. The way to success and to the top in life is hardwork, discipline, creativity, being focused, being contented, resilience, patience and determination. This idea and attitude of getting rich quick by indulging and involving in illegal deals and crimes must stop. People are angry and they can no longer tolerate criminals in their neighborhood. People are already frustrated and angry with the government. You may be unlucky and unfortunate to be lynched and burnt to death if you are caught. People do not have the patience and civility anymore to wait for the police because they have failed them many times. Is that how you want to waste your life? Have a rethink……..Ifee Ifee.
