Italian military police are investigating the source of an envelope containing three bullets and addressed to Pope Francis, authorities disclosed on August 9, 2021.
According to local officials, the postal workers intercepted the suspicious package overnight at a mail sorting unit in the Milan suburb of Peschiera Borromeo. The envelope, which has no return address but bears a French stamp, was addressed in pen to “The Pope, Vatican City, St. Peter’s Square, Rome.” It contained three pieces of 9 mm ammunition, kind of used in a Flobert gun, and a message referring to the Vatican’s financial operations. Details about the message were undisclosed.
