Mark Redwine is a 59 years old American living in Colorado, a western state in the US, who has been accused of killing his 13-year-old son, Dylan for the past eight years ago after his son allegedly found unusual photos of his him
The disturbing photos found by Dylan, the deceased son of Mark, showed his father eating human waste from a diaper whiles dressed in women’s lingerie.
Since then, the boy has disappeared from his father’s home near Durango in 2012, during a court-ordered custody visit over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Dylan was publicly declared missing on Nov. 19, 2012, and his disappearance prompted an extensive search and drew the attention of the state until his remains were found somewhere in 2014.
The first set of remains were discovered about eight miles from his father’s home, and part of his skull was later found about a mile from the initial location.
Mark Redwine was then arrested after a grand jury indicted him in July 2017 with a charge of second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of his 13-year-old son.
His trial has been postponed for several times not less than ten times with the judge granting multiple mistrials last year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Finally, the alleged murderer of his own son has appeared in La Plata County court on Monday for the start of his trial.
According to an expert of the law, Redwine will face up to 48 years in prison if he is found guilty of his son’s death.
Monday, 22nd June, 2021, was the opening statement hearing of the prosecution as the Special Deputy District Attorney, Fred Johnson made a suggestion that Dylan confronted his father with compromising photographs of his dad dressed in women’s underwear and eating faeces from a diaper on the night he was allegedly killed.
The prosecutors suggested that Dylan was killed around the night of November 18, 2012, after he made plans to meet a friend the following morning but never showed up until the news of his missing.
However, the accused initially told investigators he left his son alone that night to run errands and returned to find him missing.
Dylan’s remains were found seven months later after he went missing with his bones scattered in southwestern Colorado mountains by wild animals.
During the opening statement for the defense, Moran, the lawyer of Mark said Dylan ran away from home and suggested that a bear or mountain lion attacked him due to a tooth mark found on Dylan’s skull.
However, Johnson said traces of Dylan’s blood was found by investigators investigators in Redwine’s living room and a cadaver-sniffing dog alerted them to the smell of human remains in the back of his truck and on his clothing.
Johnson added that prosecutors will present evidence that Redwine killed Dylan in his living room, before dumping the body off a trail close to his house, and misleading investigators to cover up the crime.
