A group of friends who decided to dine-in at an IHOP in New Jersey left their waitress a $1,200 tip.
Zellie Thomas shared photos of the act of kindness on Saturday with the caption: ‘Today, I was apart of something that I hope becomes an annual holiday tradition.’
Thomas went on to explain that he and 11 other friends ‘gathered for breakfast at the Paterson @IHOP each bringing $100’.
‘We paid the bill and gave our waitress a $1,200 tip. It really is a privilege to be someone else’s blessing,’ Thomas tweeted.
Thomas also shared a heartwarming video of Angelica’s reaction.
‘Oh my gosh, you’re going to make me cry,’ she is heard saying as she covers her face with her hands.
A shocked Angelica then tells the group: ‘Thank you. I appreciate that. I appreciate that.’
But before the video was even recorded, Thomas revealed on Twitter that Angelica ‘was so confused when she was given the $1,200’.
‘She started to count it like…”Wait, you gave me to much” and as she double checks the bill we are just grinning like “she has no idea that we didn’t make a mistake”…’ Thomas tweeted.
Thomas told NJ.com that the practice is called ‘Shock & Claus’.
‘I really hope this shows people that there’s power in community and all it takes is a group of friends to come together and change someone else’s life,’ Thomas told the news outlet.
Thomas also took to Twitter following the sweet moment to encourage others to get together and bless someone.
‘If you and your friends have the capacity and heart to pool your money to give a large tip to a waitress this holiday season that you know deserves it. I encourage it. You’ll be surprised how many of your friends would be supportive of the idea!’ he wrote.
A similar moment occurred in Colorado on Friday for identical twin waitresses.
Twins, Taylor and Tiffany Erwin, were shocked to find that the group of 30 family members they were waiting on at the Village Inn restaurant in Denver, had left them a $2,700 tip.
