Former first lady Melania Trump has criticised a prominent historian who disagreed with the renovations she made to the White House Rose Garden in 2020.
While in her role as first lady, Mrs Trump renovated the historic Rose Garden in August 2020.
The White House’s famous Rose Garden was created for President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
It has gone on to be one of the most celebrated gardens in the world.
The decision to revamp the garden was met with strident criticism in some quarters, including NBC contributor and presidential historian Michael Beschloss.
“Evisceration of White House Rose Garden was completed a year ago this month, and here was the grim result—decades of American history made to disappear,” he wrote in a post on Twitter.
Mrs Trump hit back, accusing Mr Beschloss of behaving dishonourably.
“.@BeschlossDC has proven his ignorance by showing a picture of the Rose Garden in its infancy. The Rose Garden is graced with a healthy & colorful blossoming of roses. His misleading information is dishonorable & he should never be trusted as a professional historian,” she tweeted on her official Twitter account.
Last year a petition, which received more than 80,000 signatures, called for First Lady Jill Biden to reverse the changes to the Rose Garden.
