THE DESIRE FOR FAME AND POPULARITY: THE COST
There is nothing wrong with being famous or popular. It is fine to desire to be famous, to be well known and to get attention and to be recognized wherever you are and wherever you go. It is good to be liked, to be a celebrity, to have fans, to have followers and to know that there are people who appreciate and celebrate you for what you do and what you offer them. One example of famous and popular people are celebrities. We also have Politicians and indeed those who are regular faces on the big screen.Being famous or popular has a cost, it comes with a prize and what is that? The life of a famous person is in the open. They have no privacy. People follow every single step they make. The media is after them. What ordinary people do, if they do it, it will make headlines. People hold famous people to a certain standard. Sometimes they don’t have a life. They are often being stalked. Imagine on daily basis, the news crew have all their cameras focused on your house. Sometimes you can’t even take a walk, walk your dog or even go shopping, they will be besieged and mobbed by fans, followers and media.
Most of the time, these famous people are not in the mood for all that. Unfortunately they have to live like this for the rest of their lives.Because their life is in the open and in the public, everything they do is also in the open including the good and the bad. There is no place to hide. They are constantly under the public eye. As many people love famous people, there are people who hate them who ordinarily should not just because they are public figures and persona. The more famous and popular you are, the more likely you may be a victim of attack and hate.
There is a glory in being famous. It makes one feel good. It makes you feel proud of yourself. It makes you feel loved but one has to be careful what you do, what you say and where you go because you never know who is watching. One has to constantly watch their back. When you are famous, you attract attention and turn heads and any little missteps you made could also attract attention. People will misinterpret you, misunderstand you and make up stories against you because you are in the spotlight. You have to be ready to deal with false information and spurious rumors spread against you. People will use you to make money either for good or for bad. People will use you to scam, some will try to destroy your name, character and reputation. Some people may not even be happy that you are famous and popular. People will not love you hundred percent. You will also have haters
Finally, when you are popular or famous, don’t be arrogant and proud. The more blessed and lifted you are, the more humble we should be. Do not use your fame to take advantage of the weak and the vulnerable. Watch carefully your moves and steps, think twice before you say anything. Traps are set for you all over. Keep your cool and don’t loose your temper, someday you will feel like you don’t need that famous thing but it has now become your life, accept it and deal with it. Try your best to live blamelessly and above board. If possible, keep your children and family away from the spotlight.
