THE FUTILITY AND WORTHLESSNESS OF LIFE AND THE THINGS OF THIS LIFE WITH EL PASO SHOOTING IN PERSPECTIVE
Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth, vanity of vanities! All things are vanity! Ecc. Chapter 1.
What is life? What is the meaning of life? Someone is here today, tomorrow they are gone. We all are a breathe away from death. Just imagine these 20 folks who were killed in the shooting in Texas, these are people like you and I, its a Saturday, they went to Walmart to shop for their needs and probably for some of them, to shop for school supplies as fall will soon be here and unknown to them, they met their death. so sudden. Life has no meaning. We are just a mere dust. Take our breathe away and we are gone. What a life! Where is all the money, the material wealth, the riches, the physical beauty, the work out, the status, power, position, honor, accomplishments, achievements, qualifications, all the arrogance, the pride, the hate, the bearing of grudges, the pettiness, the unforgiving spirit. All of these are earthly, mundane, they are temporary, they pass away. they do not last
The earlier we understand life, the better for us, the more we live in peace and tranquility. We need wisdom to figure out and decipher what really matters and what does not really matter, what endures and what passes away. The only thing that gives meaning to life is God, seeking heavenly things and eternal realities like peace, love, humility, generosity, kindness, compassion, mercy, caring, forgiveness, reconciliation, service and sacrifice. These are things that endures and will give us true joy and happiness in this life and the next. Every other thing will fail us including money, connection and power. Sam Walton used to be the richest man in America, the founder of Walmart and Sam Club. Until his death, he is worth 8.6 Billion US dollars, same with Steve Jobs who was worth 10 Billion US dollars, both of them and indeed other great men are gone and they have to leave their wealth and sweat for others to enjoy. None of them took their fortune with them. We came into this world with nothing and we shall return with nothing. All the show will soon vanish, all these material things we flaunt and show off will at some point fail us and and we leave them behind and bow out. Everything is vanity.
As we mourn the deceased in the shooting in El Paso, let us pray for their families and also those wounded in the hospitals and all those affected by this tragedy. Let us pray for the first responders and the law enforcement as they work hard to unravel the motive behind this crazy act. For the gun issue, the stake holders need to be reminded that whether it be an economic or political issue, one day, they will die and leave behind politics and money and answer before God why it is necessary to continue to manufacture and produce an instrument of death and murder and why the politicians for political reasons have allowed and enabled the use of this weapon of death in our society. What goes around comes around. It is high time we understand the fleeting, transitory and ephemeral nature of life and the things of this world and have a rethink, put aside politics and greed and do something about this constant mass shootings in America…….www.venathel.com
