A wife has turned to the internet for help after her tradie husband who religiously showers twice a day continues to leave behind unsightly stains all over their bed.
The mother, from Queensland, shared a picture on social media showing one side of the bedhead and sheets covered in stubborn marks.
She explained her husband, who works as a plumber in civil work, ‘always comes home covered in dirt’ so he scrubs himself in the shower two to three times a day using a body wash and ‘rough’ loofah.
Despite him being ‘clean’ before slipping into bed, the wife struggled to remove the unwanted stains from their sheets.
‘How can I stop this happening to all of my sheets, pillow cases and bedhead? They are cleaned regularly, and hubby showers morning and night,’ she wrote in a Facebook group.
She joked: ‘I’m not about washing them daily but I may consider throwing him out if I cant find a solution.’
The mother said he’s usually a ‘sweaty person’ who doesn’t smoke or use fake tan or have a ‘fake tanned mistress in our bed’.
She explained that he sleeps on pillows with black covers and their headboard is cleaned regularly using a Bissell spot cleaner.
‘Between him and the kids, I can’t have nice things… Looks like I’m getting new dark sheets,’ she said.
After sharing her dilemma, dozens of women came forward saying it’s far more common than you think.
‘I have a mechanic husband and same here. I only use dark sheets and he puts an old tee shirt on top of his pillowcase to stop it happening there,’ one mum wrote.
Another agreed, saying: ‘It’s sweat. My husband’s side of the bed is the same.’
A third said: ‘Omg my partner too. Everything on his side ends up looking like this. I hate it so much and it stains the pillow cases and sheets.’
One added: ‘My hubby’s side of the bed was like this as well. He showers so much though and works in an office job. I have found that 100 per cent cotton sheets
helped. It’s still obvious which side is his but it’s nowhere near as bad.’
And it’s not just sweat that’s staining the bed. Others suggested it’s the ‘grease’ their working husbands pick up from their jobs.
‘Station wife here… husband is constantly in dust, grease, dirt, grossness so my bed is the same. He scrubs before bed ever night but he sweats so much in his sleep, it’s a nightmare,’ one wrote.
A second said: ‘My husband is the same. I swear he can shower as often as he can, two to three times a day and this still happens. It’s sweat and oils sadly.’
And another added: ‘There’s definitely a native problem with men. Someone needs to really get to the bottom of it. It’s excessive oil production… I’ve tried all sorts of things – more shampooing, less shampooing, medicated shampoo – but to no avail.’
One wife said her husband works as a professional chef so he’s always ‘cooking over a hot grill all day’.
‘Almost every day, his body absorbs the oil,’ she explained.
‘It’s gross but can’t do anything to fix it. He showers and washes his hair twice daily because it gets greasy from the grill. We have dark sheets which conceals it to a degree, but I know it’s there.’
A group of mothers have shared their own tips and tricks to remove stains:
‘We put a dishwashing tablet in with the sheets. It breaks down the grease.’
‘It’s crazy what the body absorbs during the day, no amount of showering will fix it so dark bedding is the way to go.’
‘Maybe an exfoliating body scrub in the shower? I’d also give Aldi’s stain remover spray a go – it’s cheap and works so damn well.’
‘Get a professional to clean the bedhead, then Scotchgard it. Soak pillowcases and sheets overnight in Napisan when it’s sheet change day.’
‘100% cotton sheets helped. It’s still obvious but it’s nowhere near as bad.’
‘Nothing can be done outside of buying dark colours that hide it.’
